Tight security in Varanasi ahead of Modi's visit

Varanasi, Dec 25 (IANS): Security personnel were deployed in large numbers in this Uttar Pradesh temple town ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's day-long visit to his parliamentary constituency Thursday.

Extra forces have been commissioned for the VVIP visit, an official told IANS.

The official said places around Babatpur airport, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Jagannath temple near Assi Ghat will see heavy deployment of security personnel.

The Special Protection Group has taken over all vantage positions and venues.

Modi's arrival here has been delayed by over an hour because of dense fog and inclement weather.

The prime minister will take part in a string of events, after which he will leave for New Delhi late evening.
