Peshawar attack jolted nation, says Pakistan president


Islamabad, Dec 25 (IANS): Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday said the Dec 16 Taliban attack on a Peshwar school that left over 140 students and teachers killed has jolted the nation and joint efforts are needed to fight terrorism.

He said this while addresing a gathering at Mohammad Ali Jinnah's residency in Ziarat district of Balochistan province, where he took part in a flag hoisting ceremony on the occasion of the Quaid-e-Azam's birth anniversary.

On the seond day of his three-day visit to Baluchistan, Mamnoon Hussain visited Jinnah's residency where Governor of Baluchistan Mohammad Khan Achakzai, Southern Command chief Lt.Gen. Nasir Janjua and other officials were also present, The News International reported.

Mamnoon Hussain said that terrorism has harmed the country immensely and it was about time the nation fought against this menace to make this country peaceful.

He praised the efforts of the armed forces, stating that the nation was proud of their determination and sacrifices.

Hussain emphasised that the whole nation should stand behind the army in these difficult times and help it fight terrorism.

He said the terrorists tried to destroy Jinnah's residency but the government has restored it to its original state.

Stating that the economic corridor can bring a revolution in the region and Balochistan had a central role in the corridor, he said soon the Gawadar port would be operational and a new airport would be built.
