Bhubaneswar, Dec 25 (IANS): Odisha has again urged the central government to accord final approval for the proposed IT Investment Region (ITIR) here.

The detailed project report (DPR) is pending with the central government since 2010.

Odisha IT Minister Pranab Prakash Das told IANS: "I have written a letter to union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to give final approval to the project, which has already availed in-principle approval."

Even though the state government has already submitted DPR to Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) for promoting IT/ITes and ESDM (Electronic System Design & Manufacturing) units since 2010, the central government is yet to consider this.

"The DPR of the state government was cleared by the High Power Committee under the chairmanship of cabinet secretary and all necessary clarifications regarding this project have been sent to DeitY. But the proposal is still pending at the government of India-level," said the letter.

The letter follows the central government's recent letter to the state government asking for fresh ITIR proposal from the state.

"There is no need for fresh proposal as the proposed project in Bhubaneswar has already received in-principle nod," Das said.

In October, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had sought the prime minister's intervention for speedy approval of the project.

In July, Das had written to Ravi Shankar Prasad requesting him for the final approval of the project.

According to the state government's proposal, the ITIR project will come up in 10210 acres with a processing area of 4,300 acres to house IT/ITES/Electronics Hardware Manufacturing and R&D centres.

The project is likely to generate over two lakh job opportunities in the IT, ITes and ESDM sectors.
