Mangalore, Dec 9: All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Spots and games are important for being hale and hearty said DrJohn Joseph, Commissioner, Central Excise. He was addressing the sports persons at the inaugural of two days' Basketball tournament (Men) organized by Fr Muller Medical College for the students under Rajiv Gandhi University of Helath sciences for the Mysore Zone.
Speaking on the occasion he said that sports is a test for one's ability to work against all odds. Narrating the story of Wilma Rudolph of America who in spite of her physical disability won medals in the Rome and Melbourne Olympics in athletics, he exhorted the players to fight against all odds not only in games but also in life. He said it is participating that is important than winning which only one team can do.
Fr Stany Tauro, who presided over the function, invited the students to display good sportsmanship and discipline.
Seven teams of Mysore Zone Fr Muller Medical College, JSS College, Mysore, K S Hegde Medical Academy, A B Shetty, Yenepoya, AJ institute of Medical sciences and Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy are participating in the tournament.
Fr Denis D'Sa, administrator welcomed the gathering while dean Dr B S Rai proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Baptist Menezes felicitated the chief guest. Dr Ramesh Naik, the sports advisor was present on the dais.
The valedictory and the prize distribution ceremony will be held on the Saturday December 9 evening at 5 30. Sunder Naik, the registrar of Varsity will be the chief guest.
