Fog continues to affect life in Punjab, Haryana


Chandigarh, Dec 27 (IANS): Dense fog affected normal life in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Saturday, with visibility being reduced to less than 50 metres in some places in the morning.

In Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala, visibility was reduced to less than 50 percent, weather officials said here.

Most parts of both states and Chandigarh saw moderate to dense fog, they said.

Visibility was down to 100-200 metres in many places (at 8.30 a.m.), affecting road and rail traffic.

Amritsar was the coldest place in the region with a minimum temperature of three degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh recorded a low of six degrees.

Weather officials said the maximum temperatures were keeping low, increasing the chill factor during day time.

Chandigarh had recorded a maximum of 11 degrees Friday, 10 degrees below normal. Maximum temperatures in other places in Punjab and Haryana hovered between 11 and 14 degrees.

Met officials said the cold wave and foggy conditions will continue for the next few days.
