Still-born's body found outside Delhi hospital


New Delhi, Dec 27 (IANS): The body of a still-born baby was found outside the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP) here Saturday, police said.

The body, covered in a towel, was found by passers-by at 7 a.m.

Police found that baby was delivered at the hospital as a LNJP Hospital tag was attached to the towel. A doctor's prescription, gloves and cotton were also recovered along with the body.

According to the hospital authorities, the still-born baby was delivered by a young woman admitted to the hospital at 9 p.m. on Friday.

"The woman delivered the still-born baby around 12.30 a.m. on Saturday. The body was soon handed over to the baby's father," LNJP medical superintendent Siddarth Ramji told IANS.

Police found that the father had abandoned the body outside the hospital's toilet complex.

"An inquest has been initiated into the matter," a police officer told told IANS.
