Saradha scam accused minister brought back to jail


Kolkata, Dec 28 (IANS): West Bengal Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra, who was arrested in connection with the multi-crore Saradha scam, was Sunday brought to the Alipore Jail after being discharged from a hospital.

"He was brought to the Alipore correctional home in the morning after being discharged from the hospital," a jail official said.

Arrested Dec 12 by the CBI for his alleged complicity in the scam, Mitra was admitted to the government-run SSKM Hospital after he complained of chest pain Dec 19, the day he was sent to judicial custody by a city court till Jan 2.

A medical board Saturday decided to discharge him from the hospital after his examinations failed to reveal anything significant.

"He was admitted with problems related to cardiology, and tests conducted on him so far have not revealed anything significant. Therefore, the medical board has decided not keep him in the hospital any further," hospital director Pradip Mitra said Saturday.

While the formalities for his release were completed Saturday, Mitra left the hospital only Sunday.
