Amritsar freezes as cold wave continues in Punjab, Haryana


Chandigarh, Dec 29 (IANS): Amritsar city in Punjab was the coldest in the region with the minimum temperature being recorded at a freezing zero degrees Monday.

Cold wave conditions and dense fog continued to affect normal life in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Monday, weather officials said here.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of three degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, Karnal (2.6), Ambala (3.7) and Hisar (3.1) were also in the grip of a cold wave.

Dense fog prevailed in Punjab with visibility being reduced to less than 50 metres at some places Monday morning.

In Ludhiana and Patiala, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.1 and 3.4 degrees respectively.

Foggy conditions and a cold wave continued to affect normal life in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. Moderate to dense fog was seen as most places, affecting road and railway traffic.

Flights to and from the Chandigarh airport have been affected for the past over one week.

Met officials said that the cold wave and foggy conditions will continue for the next few days.
