India summons Pakistan envoy on Lakhvi ruling

New Delhi, Dec 29 (IANS): The Indian government Monday summoned Pakistan's High Commissioner Abdul Basit after a Pakistani court suspended the detention order of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attack.

Informed sources said that the issue was raised by India both in Delhi and in Islamabad.

They said that Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh summoned the Pakistan High Commissioner and "strongly raised the issue".

Coming out of the meeting, Basit refused to comment.

"Ask them (the external affairs ministry)," he told reporters.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday suspended the detention order of Lakhvi, who had been kept in custody under the preventive detention order after an anti-terrorism court granted him bail.
