Land ordinance aids corporates, harms farmers: CPI-M

New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS): The CPI-M Tuesday accused the government of favouring corporates and real estate agents at the cost of farmers by amending the Land Acquisition Act.

The party "strongly opposes the decision of the BJP government to amend the Land Acquisition Act through the ordinance route to favour the interests of the corporates and real estate barons", it said.

"The proposed amendment surrenders the genuine interests of the peasantry and land owners," it said.

"This decision is in continuation of the ordinances passed on coal privatisation and raising the FDI in insurance," said the Communist Party of India-Marxist.

"By taking recourse to ordinance raj, the BJP-led NDA government is undermining the essence of parliamentary democracy and showing authoritarian tendencies."
