Man injured after stepping on landmine in Kashmir

Jammu, Dec 30 (IANS): A man was injured when he accidentally stepped on a landmine Tuesday near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said.

"A civilian - identified as Muhammad Khurshid - stepped accidentally on a landmine near the LoC in Bhimber Ghali sector of Rajouri district around 4 p.m.," defence ministry spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.

The landmine exploded, injuring him in the foot. He was immediately taken to a hospital.

Khurshid was visiting some relatives in a nearby village from his native Tarkundi village when the incident occurred, he said.

Landmines are planted very close to the LoC to prevent guerrillas from entering Indian territory.
