AirAsia plane wreckage: Singapore Navy vessels alter course

Singapore, Dec 31 (IANS): Three vessels of Singapore Navy have change their original search area for the wreckage of an AirAsia plane and are expected to reach their new location Wednesday morning, a media report said.

On Tuesday, wreckage of the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 was located some 160 km southwest of the Pangkalan Bun town in Indonesia's Central Kalimantan province.

The three vessels - RSS Supreme, RSS Valour, and RSS Persistence - had planned to reach the search zone, closer to the island of Beilitung, to help with the search operation, Xinhua reported citing Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao daily.

Another vessel - the MV Swift Rescue - departed Tuesday night. The submarine support and rescue vessel is equipped with sensors and sonars to detect signals from the plane's black box.

Singapore has so far sent two C-130 aircraft and four vessels to join the search operations.
