Two killed in Afghan Taliban attack


Kabul, Dec 31 (IANS): At least two people were killed and eight injured Wednesday after Taliban militants attacked a local market in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province.

"Three armed Taliban militants began firing on security checkpoints and civilians shortly after they got off a vehicle in Bati Kot district market," an official told Xinhua.

One police and a civilian were killed while six civilians and two policemen sustained injuries.

"The number of casualties might increase as the battle is still underway," the official added.
