Fresh US sanctions violate goodwill principle: Iran

Tehran, Dec 31 (IANS): Fresh US sanctions against Iran violate Washington's "goodwill principle", an official said Wednesday.

"Such a move by the US is an obvious violation of its goodwill principle and casts doubts on its goals," Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said.

The US Tuesday imposed sanctions on nine people and entities for their alleged role in helping the Iranian government evade sanctions and supporting its human rights abuses.

"The US sanctions are totally political and propagandistic and they result from its domestic policies," Afkham said.

"The sanctions will have no impact and we will continue our efforts to provide our needs," she added.

Iran is already under sanctions by the UN Security Council. The US and the European Union have also imposed an embargo on Iran's energy industry and financial sector.
