New Haryana BJP legislators to get governance training

Chandigarh, Jan 2 (IANS): Having formed the government for the first time on its own in Haryana with majority of its legislators being first-timers, the BJP will hold a two-day session to train them on governance issues at Surajkund from Saturday.

The session will be inaugurated by union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, while External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will attend the concluding function of the event Sunday, a spokesman of the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit said.

BJP president Amit Shah will also attend the event, while other senior national party leaders, including ministers, will address the legislators.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is himself a first-time BJP legislator in Haryana, as are some of his ministerial colleagues.

Out of the party's 47 legislators, 39 are first-timers.

"The new legislators and the experienced ones will be told about governance and how they should use the opportunity (of becoming legislators) to get results," the spokesman said.

The BJP came to power for the first time in Haryana, which was created Nov 1, 1966, after getting a clear mandate in the Oct 15 assembly polls.

Khattar, a former Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) leader, was elected leader by the BJP legislators and took over as chief minister Oct 26.
