Cairo, Jan 3 (IANS): Thirteen Egyptian Coptic workers were kidnapped Saturday in Libya's Sirte city, a week after the abduction of seven others, media reported.

"Daesh (Arabic name for the Islamic State terrorist group) militants kidnapped the 13 Coptic workers and led them to an unknown destination," state-run MENA news agency quoted Libyan journalist Malek al Sharif as writing on his Facebook page.

The incident comes a week after seven Egyptian Coptic workers were kidnapped in Sirte as well. Also, an Egyptian Coptic family - a man, his wife and teen daughter -- were found dead in Sirte the week before.

A local security source in the Libyan city also confirmed that the 13 Egyptian Coptics have been kidnapped.

All 13 workers are from the Upper Egyptian city of Minya, the source said.

Extremist militias stormed a residential compound in Sirte, west of Tripoli, early Saturday and abducted the Egyptian Coptic workers, the source added.
