Jammu and Kashmir : PDP, BJP close to tie-up pact

NEW DELHI, Jan 6, DHNS: The People’s Democratic party (PDP) has emerged as the choice of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. BJP chief Amit Shah has decided to constitute a team for holding negotiations with the leading regional outfit.

“There has been an initiative from the PDP side. To take this forward, we decided to hold further discussions on the issues (with the PDP). At the moment, there is some forward movement on the issue,” BJP general secretary Ram Madhav told reporters after the meeting that took place at Shah’s residence.

BJP sources, aware of the development, said Shah was going to constitute a team in a day or two, which would be authorised to officially interact with PDP leaders on contentious issues before government formation. For the first time, BJP leaders said the PDP had made serious moves on taking government formation talks forward since previous overtures were only confined to media.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who had visited Srinagar as an observer after the results were declared, hinted that controversial issues could be set aside for larger interest. But, at the same time, he accepted that it was “very difficult” for parties to rescind their ideological positions.

The PDP, which got most of its votes from the Muslim-dominated Kashmir region, is worried over the BJP demand for a Hindu chief minister. The PDP, led by former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, wants the saffron party to clear its stand on Article 370 and Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

“The issue has moved forward. As and when we move forward we will let you know. Keeping in mind the mandate in Jammu and Kashmir, we have decided to take forward the talks,” Madhav said.

If the two parties—the PDP got 28 seats, the BJP 25—come together, they will easily cross the halfway mark of 44 to provide a stable government. The Assembly has 87 members.

After getting positive feelers from the PDP, Shah had summoned top leaders of his party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit for an urgent meeting in Delhi to discuss the way forward. The state still does not have a government after 13 days of declaration of election results.

Apart from Shah and Madhav, others present in the meeting were: Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh, party's in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna, BJP state unit president Jugal Kishore Sharma and senior state leaders Nirmal Singh and Bali Bhagat.
BJP state unit leader Beli Ram Bhagat said, “We will let you know soon whatever was discussed in meeting.”

Till two days ago, the BJP was not sure of the back channel talks with the PDP and the National Conference. That is why it sought time from the governor who wanted to know government formation plans.

If we can have linguistic states why not based on Majority Religion. Make 2 states. Hindu -Jammu and Muslim Kashmir. Smaller states Policy of BJP. Both part of Indian Federation. We can later think of merger of Pakistan occupied Kashmir with Our Kashmir

Best option to solve Kashmir problem is, merge Jammu with most portion of Kashmir and rename the state with new name(or keep the same name 'Jammu'). Leave the small portion at the border as Kashmir state.

I suggested on the basis of area and not religion wise. I did not suggest to take one area from here and another area from that area.. my suggestion was just to get rid off the problems. It is up to you how you take it and understand it....

..ISMAIL, where is U turn?..did BJP said it will deviate from its earlier stand!!..eventhough BJP/PDP is surely a mismatch ideologically..forming Govt is far better than doing a KEJRIWAL..J&K election is not easy task..Governor rule also not viable solution..even its divided mandate, forming Govt is not sin..for the sake of state/Nation even if BJP & CONGRESS forms Govt one should not have problem..it happened in many other country where opposition party became part of teh Govt..when its for state like J&K, rise above politics/religion..

Its a marriage of convienence no doubt, but both parties have the peoples mandate...with 23.5% vote share BJP has highest in J&K with PDP coming close with 22.8%...

The earlier dispensation of NC & Congi given the boot by the people...So democratically PDP-BJP alliance is much required for stability, prosperity of people...they would have to make compromises no doubt

Wrong choice. Both parties will repent for this unholy alliance. Bjp will suffer the most. I dint think this alliance will last long as both the party have different ideologies. BJP should have taken lop position in JK in the intent of the state. We need good numbers not ruling ulta pulta alliance. Bjp should have left that job to dongis.

How can BJP U TURN from the the core issue of article 370 and Army's special power retrieval?Modi in a election in JK attributed JK's backwardness because of FATHER-DAUGHTER RULE(PDP)and FATHER -SON's RULE(NC)There is no clear mandate and it is decisively fractured one.I don't think PDP-BJP alliance last long as both are in north and south pole when ideology and party principle concerned.A secular Govt headed by PDP is ideal for JK under given circumstances.Anyway,BJP has no conviction on his own ideology and party principles. It can U TURN as usual...

instead of giving lecture to BJP, tell that to PDP instead! as much as you want, I too wnated BJP to sit in opposition and watch the game of secularism.. but it is a border state, a national security threat!bjp should be in driving seat there... anyways BJP doesn't consider itself untouchable, except Congress and LEFT! it is PDP being Muslim should tell its voters, why it is aligning with BJP!... Else sit like AAP, and say we want fresh election and dissolve until you give full mandate!

waise SAFFRON se kashmiriyon ko nafrat nahi hai... they are the ones who grow Saffron there.. vhe vhe vhe
