Mangalore, Dec 15: City mayor Vijaya Arun was felicitated at a function held in Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry Meeting hall here on Friday December 15 evening.

On the occasion John Prasad Menezes, president of the KCCI submitted a memorandum to the Mayor. Some of the demands in the memorandum included

  • Eradication of diseases like malaria, dengue and chikengunya,
  • Take immediate measures to improve the infrastructure facility such as quality motorable roads, planned tunnel ducts for all roads, underground pipelines and cables.
  • Disposal of garbage, with a dustbin-free city being the most ideal target and motto
  • Every ward should have sufficient public utility services like toilets, urinals in sufficient number,
  • The productive use of all the municipal hospitals infrastructure and staff to be made functional in present and future context
  • Building laws should be implemented stringently
  • Water management should be utilised in its all available sources to face severe water scarcity in the city.

Addressing the gathering mayor Vijaya Arun said measures had been taken to tackle water scarcity, action against illegal buildings and repairing of street lights and bad roads in the city. Beautifying the city to attract tourists is also under consideration mayor informed. Besides, twenty kilometre stretch of roads within the city would be concreted. All these projects would be taken up under ADB finance scheme.

An interaction session with the public was held.

Deputy Mayor Abdul Saleem, Kumbala Narasimha Prabhu, vice president of KCCI, M Ahmed Bava, treasurer of KCCI and Srinivas S Kamath secretary of KCCI were also present.
