Panaji, Dec 16: Goa University (GU) is planning to honour Portugal President Anibal Cavaco Silva with a doctorate degree while on his Goa tour in February 2007.

“University’s executive council in its recent meeting has taken the decision to honour him with the doctorate,” GU’s vice chancellor Dr P S Zacharius.

 He said that the recommendation to honour Portugal President has been forwarded to Chancellor S C Jamir for his approval.

Silva who is scheduled on visit Goa in the February second week will also be the chief guest for university’s convocation ceremony.

“We are waiting for clearance from the external affairs ministry,” Zacharius said adding that the university will make announcement about honouring him with doctorate only after getting clearance from the Chancellor and external affairs ministry.
