Indian ex-servicemen to be honoured in Bahrain


Dubai, Jan 8 (IANS): Eighty Indian ex-servicemen now working in Bahrain will be honoured by the Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Forum under the patronage of the Gulf nation's labour ministry and Indian embassy Jan 9.

The event, 'Gandhi Darshan Pravasi Sangamam', coincides with the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's return to India from South Africa and will be held at the Indian School's Jashanmal Auditorium in Isa Town near Bahrain's capital Manama, Gulf Daily News reported Thursday.

The chief guest will be Bahrain Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan, while Ram Singh, first secretary for labour and community welfare, will be the guest of honour.

Keynote speakers will include currrent and former officials from the Kerala government.

"The Indian government has celebrated this event for the past 10 years," said organiser Latheesh Bharathan.

"But it is being organised for the first time in Bahrain and we are receiving a positive response," he added.
