Himachal wants ST status for Labana community


Shimla, Jan 8 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Thursday said the government would try to declare the Labana community as Scheduled Tribe (ST).

The case for inclusion of the Labana community in the Scheduled Tribes list would again be sent to the central government for consideration, a statement quoting the chief minister said.

Presiding over the Labana Welfare Board meeting in Dharamsala town, he said the board was set up with an objective of upliftment of the community by identifying and redressing their problems.

He exhorted the non-official members of the community to come out with concrete proposals and suggestions for benefiting their community.
