Mamata to set up team to implement investment proposals

Kolkata, Jan 8 (IANS): Aiming to expedite the formalities over deals signed with the industry, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday said a small core group will be formed to actualise the investment in the state.

"I am going to set up a small team - Amit Mitra (finance minister), my chief secretary and my (industry) core group people alongwith my official secretary. I will review what all we accepted in the proposals," Banerjee said at the two-day Bengal Global Business Summit here.

The chief minister said she will herself review the progress on the proposals and agreements after three months starting Jan 8 to speed up industrial development of the state.

"From today (Jan 8), we will start an administrative calendar, and the industry department (headed by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation) will be the nodal agency for that," she said.

The "small team" comprising high-level state officials and the finance minister will look into the proposals carefully and try to solve any issues that might crop up.

She said the industry and investors in the state can keep in touch with the team directly.
