Mangalore, Dec 18: The government's order to charge nominal fee for all medical treatment in government hospitals has now stirred a hornet's nest. People from all walks of all life all are now coming together to protest against government circular which has promulgated this order.
A similar protest was staged in front of Wenclok Hospital here on Monday December 18 morning. The protest was led by DYFI and All-India Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane. The protestors are of the opinion that Wenlock Hospital which has a history of almost 150 years, will in the future be out of reach for the economically backward sections of the society.
"It is the duty of the government to provide free and fare medical treatment to poor sections of the society. But if the government starts charging for the treatment, perhaps these sections of the society will forever be out of the mainstream in all aspects," they demanded.
They accused that government is indirectly pushing the patients to private hospitals and that it is a step in privatization of hospitals, they opined.
