Mangalore, Dec 19: The health department of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has penalised two enterprises for not following the malaria control norms.

The penalty was imposed on Gujjadi Construction Company at Chilimbi here, where mosquitoes were found breeding in the water stored for construction work.

Fine was also slapped on the canteen owners of the deputy commissioner’s office wherein mosquitoes were found in the water reserved for cooking purposes.

The offenders were fined a paltry sum of Rs 50 on the first day and will be asked to pay an additional Rs 15 on each subsequent day till they adhere to rules.

MCC has been stepping up its drive against malaria, especially after several girls of a hostel were admitted to the hospital and one girl died after following a bout of malaria.
