Dubai, Dec 19: The fourth anniversary celebrations and Christmas get-together of USWAS, a group of Shirva parishioners residing in the UAE was held on Friday December 15 at Grand Continental Flamingo Hotel, Abu Dhabi. 

The programme started with a prayer by senior member Leena Mathias, Abu Dhabi.  Thereafter Canute Mathias welcomed the gathering with a welcome hymn.  The main intention of the programme was to bring together all Shirvaites residing in Abu Dhabi and the attendance of around 130 members clearly showed that USWAS succeeded in the same.

President Denis Gomes welcomed the gathering and thanked all the sponsors, well wishers, members and committee members for supporting USWAS and requested for the similar support in the coming days too.  He then welcomed the new committee for the year 2007 and handed over the job to newly-elected president Ivan Mathias. Committee members of USWAS along with patrons Joseph and Leena Mathias of Abu Dhabi celebrated the occasion of Christmas and anniversary by cutting the cake.  New president Ivan Mathias proposed vote of thanks.

High point of the day was honoring of senior and founder member of USWAS Vincent Corda as URBEVONT SHIRVAGAAR (Active Shirvaite of USWAS) for his continuous and dedicated service towards USWAS.  He was honored by Joseph and Leena Mathias on behalf of USWAS.  After receiving the honor Vincent Corda thanked everyone.

 Entertainment session started with Konkani songs by Canute Mathias, Joy Almeida and Andrea D’Souza.  Arun Carlo played melodious music with Canute Mathias. Jodi No.1 winner Andrea D’Souza   performed a dance for the song Crazy Kia Re.

Kids and Adults enjoyed by participating in the various games and spot prizes.  There were various prizes on offer for games and novelty raffles.  Boscyambegaar consisting of Sharan, Denis Mathias, Manu, Elvie and Joy presented skits which made the gathering to burst into laughter. 

In the afternoon session Santa Clause arrived with lots of gifts and sweets for the children. Christmas carols were sung in the background by children along with Canute and Andrea. Novelty raffle draw was held. The fully decorated huge X-Mas tree was put auctioned owing to the huge demand from the gathering and was won by William D’Souza.

Grand buffet was served. The celebration ended at 5.30 pm with grand dance to the tune of DJ Music played by DJ CanMat.

 Entire event was well compered by Sharan and Manu Menezes.
