Kundapur, Dec 20: The blue print for the 60-metre long bridge at Kody is ready, and the same has been submitted to the government for approval, said Haroon Saheb , municipal president, addressing press persons here on Tuesday December 19.
The project has been approved by the deputy commissioner. All heavy vehicles can ply on the bridge, which is estimated to cost Rs 1.77 crore. This amount will be generated from various sectors like municipal funds, Syndicate Bank Water Supply scheme, loan repayment towards IDSMT scheme and also from municipal earnings, he said.
While seeking support of the municipal councillors for the project, Saheb termed the allegations made by the CPM and BJP councilors that the municipal administration has taken up the project with elections in mind, as baseless. The suggestion for the bridge was given by MLC Pratapchandra Shetty in 1984, but the proposal was not initiated as the ends of the bridge fell under urban areas, he added.
Present at the press meet were standing committee chairman Jacob D’Souza, former municipal president Devaki Sannaiah and municipal vice-president Leni Crasta.
