Sensex trades flat; IT stocks drop


Mumbai, Jan 13 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Tuesday was trading flat at 11.28 points or 0.04 percent down as IT stocks dropped.

Good buying was observed in healthcare and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors, while selling pressure was seen in IT and oil and gas sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,611.56 points, was trading at 27,573.99 points (at 09.39 a.m.) in the early session, down 11.28 points or 0.04 percent from the previous day's close at 27,585.27 points.

The Sensex has touched a high of 27,670.19 points and a low of 27,554.77 points in the trade so far.

The S&P healthcare index gained 88.72 point and the FMCG index moved up by 74.54 points. However, the IT index dropped by 59.15 points and oil and gas index went down by 32.92 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 10.75 points or 0.13 percent up at 8,333.75 points.
