Communal tension grips Bareilly

Bareilly, Jan 14 (IANS): Communal tension Wednesday gripped parts of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh after miscreants slaughtered an animal and threw it next to a religious place, police said.

When the carcass was noticed in the morning, incensed members of a community took to the streets shouting slogans. Shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in panic.

Police and district officials pacified the crowd by promising to arrest the guilty.

One official told IANS that the situation was under control but tension persisted. Police reinforcements have been deployed in the area.
