Mangalore, Dec 24: Ankitha Rajaram of Sharada Vidyalaya here has won two medals in the under 7 girls’ category in the Second Asian School Chess Festival organised by Singapore Chess Federation on behalf of Asian School Chess federation at Singapore between Dec 17 and 23, 2006.

 

Ankitha earned the individual bronze medal by scoring 5 points in 7 rounds. She also secured the team gold for India.
 
Ankitha had scored against Vietnam, China and Singapore players. She had lost two games - against Ivana (Gold Winner) and Renitha Samantha (Philippine- Silver Winner).

Her last victory against Singaporean Lai Rui-Qian Amber was crucial as it helped her to secure the third place as well helped India to win the team gold in her category.

Adith Jagadish, Lourdes Central School, Mangalore had taken part in the Under 13 Open category where he secured credible fifth place with 5.5 points in 9 rounds.

Ankitha's rare feat is the maiden Asian medal for Mangalorean chess players.
