Mangalore, Dec 24: With no midnight mass in Mangalore, Catholics entered Christmas celebrations by 7 pm in various churches in and around the city.
Except for Rosario church and Urva which had Christmas service beginning at 11 pm and 10 pm, the other churches refrained from mid-night service.
The chill breeze that December brings could not stand strong against the heat generated by the congregation in every church. With great fervour devotees attended service in various churches.
Curiosity to find out what creativity awaits them in the church crib drew crowds to the huge cribs built in every church.
While most maintained the traditional looks, Infant Jesus Church made a Christmas Express (train) and a crib it.
Carol singing followed the solemn Eucharistic celebration in most of the churches.
From Darkness to Light - Merry Christmas to You All
December 24, 2006 Mangalore
After the feasts of Eid and Diwali, as we approach the end of the year, we are at Christmastimes.
"Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya" - this underlying message is the essence of every religion. Every faith teaches its followers to shed the gloom of inequality, hatred, injustice etc. and guides them to tread the path of righteousness (Dharma) and brotherhood.
According to Christians, the birth of Jesus Christ took place on a chilly, dark night. With his birth, the darkness and chill was dispelled and it ushered light and warmth.
May the spirit of peace, harmony and brotherhood espoused by him prevail in this world.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
