Bhutan PM prays at Bodh Gaya, gifted sapling of Bodhi tree


Patna, Jan 17 (IANS): Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay Saturday visited Bodh Gaya and prayed at the Mahabodhi temple, Buddhism's holiest shrine, officials said.

Gaya district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agrawal said that Tobgey, who is here on a two-day visit, offered prayers and also circumambulated the ancient Mahabodhi tree under which the Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment.

The Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) gifted a sapling of the sacred Bodhi tree to Tobgey, a BTMC official said.

Later the prime minister also visited the Bhutan temple and other Buddhist temples at Bodh Gaya, about 110 km from Patna.

He will spend his night in a hotel in Bodh Gaya and will leave for Nalanda Sunday morning to visit the ruins of ancient Nalanda university.
