Mangalore, Dec 26: With rising protests against the setting up of the coal-based thermal power plant in Nandikur, the fight between environmentalists and industrialists seems never-ending. Last week, a protest was held in Padubidri against Nagarjuna Power Plant. Following this the Kaup Block Congress had decided to hold another protest against the power plant.
In a press meet, former minister Vasanth V Salian said that a one-day fast will be held on December 26. A jaatha will begin from Mudarangady to Thenkanidiyooru on January 6. The jaatha will pass through Padubidri. A sathyagragraha will also be held till January 13, he added.
Salian, while opposing the thermal plant, said that the project would have adverse affect on the people and the environment. Further the forceful implementation without taking the people into confidence was also questioned.
