Mangalore, Dec 27: A delegation comprising mayor Vijaya Arun, BJP leaders, former minister Ramanath Rai, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake and others who had been to New Delhi to meet various ministers and update them on the city’s needs, have returned with assurances from the ministers.
The mayor said that the union minister for urban development Jaypal Reddy has assured a sum of Rs 200 crore for projects under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) Guidelines 2005, and have been asked to submit the proposals at the earliest.
The Rs 200 crore project includes construction and upgradation of many roads in city corporation limits.
Nearly 80 per cent of the funds will be provided by the central government, while the rest will be shared by the state government and the MCC.
Union minister for surface transport and shipping T P Balu has assured his support for the construction of an over bridge at Padil, said the mayor.
The delegation also met up with union minister of state for labour Oscar Fernandes and updated him about various projects for the development of the city.
