Seven killed in Baghdad suicide bombings

Baghdad, Jan 22 (IANS): At least seven people were killed and 26 others wounded Thursday when two suicide bombers blew themselves up and a car bomb exploded at a security base near the Iraq capital Baghdad, media reported.

The attacks occurred in the morning when a car bomb was detonated outside a military base in Taji area, some 20 km north of Baghdad, followed by two suicide bombers triggering their explosive vests at the entrance of the base, Xinhua reported.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years, in which at least 12,282 civilians have been killed and 23,126 others injured in 2014, the deadliest year since the flare up of sectarian violence in 2006-2007, according to a recent UN report.
