Mangalore, Dec 30: Union minister of state for labour Oscar Fernandes received representations from fishermen for the commissioning of the proposed Chitrapur Jetty project at Tannirbavi NMPT guest house here on Friday December 29.

Addressing press persons on the occasion, Fernandes said that the work on the Chitrapur Fisheries Jetty will be executed very soon. There are plans to construct jetties all along the coast to help fishermen get a good price for their fish and also to facilitate fishing during the rainy season, he said.

The central government has already made plans in this regard and the state government should provide the land for the project, he said.

Suratkal block Congress president Vijay Kumar Shetty submitted a memorandum to Fernandes while Karnataka Coast Traditional Country Boat Fishermen’s Union president Sharat Guddekopla had a talk with him over the construction of the jetties.

Among those present were Udupi district Congress committee president M A Gafoor, MLC K Pratapchandra Shetty, former corporator Purushottam Chitrapur, corporator Navin D’Souza and others.
