Mangalore, Dec 30: The newly-constructed bus stand and commercial complex at B C Road near here was inaugurated by district in-charge minister B Nagraj Shetty on Friday December 29.
The bus stand cum commercial complex has been built by the town administration under IDSMT scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 34 crore.
Speaking on the occasion Shetty said that the since the bus stand is not big enough to accommodate the growing vehicular traffic in the town, there are plans of building a government bus stand. Discussions have already been held with state transport minister and the project would be executed very soon, he added.
He further said that the Bantwal town panchayat will begin to function as municipality from the first week of January 2007.
Vittal MLA K Padmanabh Kottari presided over the inaugural programme.
Scholarships were awarded to students belonging to scheduled castes and tribes on the occasion.
Among those present were town panchayat president B Dinesh Bhandary, vice-president B Yashoda, standing committee chairman B Shridhar Malli, tahsildar Achyuth P and taluk panchayat executive officer Jayasheela Reddy.
