Taliban commander arrested in Pakistan

Islamabad, Jan 24 (IANS): Security forces Saturday arrested three suspected militants, including a Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander, in Pakistan's Balochistan province, media reported.

An intelligence officer, who declined to be named since he was not authorised to speak to media, told Dawn that the three suspected militants were arrested in a raid conducted by security forces in Harnai district.

He said the forces acted on an intelligence report on the presence of militants in the area.

They also recovered arms and ammunition from the militants.

Security forces had launched a crackdown against militants in the province in the wake of the Taliban assault on Peshawar's Army Public School Dec 16, which left over 140 people, including more than 130 school children, dead.
