Bhatkal, Jan 26: The 66th Republic Day was observed with patriotic fervour and eye catching display of culture at Bhatkal police ground, here on Monday January 26.

The national flag was hoisted by assistant commissioner Chidanand Watare in the presence of Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidiya and other dignitaries. 

Addressing the gathering, he said, “The significance of Republic Day celebrations applies to everyone in the country. Our country is the biggest republic in the world. The year 2015 is very important for India. India is becoming financially very strong and all countries are trying to build good relation with India. The nation India should be kept always first in our mind. We should always think of contributing to the growth of our nation. Terrorism and naxalism are two big challenges ahead of us”.

The impressive march-past enthralled one and all. More than 2,000 people were present during the celebrations. The Republic day committee felicitated the achievers who have excelled in various fields on the occasion.

As many as 12 teams comprising of NCC wings, scout, police personnel and students participated in the march past. Various cultural programmes like patriotic songs and dance, bike stunt show were staged on the occasion.

The Republic Day was also observed in various government organisations and institutions in Bhatkal

Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidiya presided over the function. TMC president Manjamma Ravindra, TMC vice-president Dr SM Saleem, ACF Nandesh, Tahsildar VM Bhadker Bhatkal DySP Ayyappa M, Taluk panchayat president Shanty Shukramane, ZP member Abdul Raheem Shaikh, TMC standing committee chairman Abdul Rawoof Naitey and others were present.
