Margao, Jan 2: Three Students of Nagaland University of Medziphama, including one girl, drowned in the Colva Sea on Monday evening.
According to the Colva Police, a team of 49 students and 5 instructors were down in Goa on a study tour on December 30, and had stayed in the Vasco hotel. The group was to return on Monday night by train. But this tragedy made them to stay here.
Anjungla, Vilasiutuo and Zaimo
As most of the tourists down in Goa to celebrate the New year on the beaches of Goa, this group had also come to Colva on the day of the New Year and some of them moved towards sea for bathing. While doing so, a strong undercurrent wave dragged them into the sea. Their colleagues and others tried to rescue them, but in vain.
Ajungla (23) from Longchor Yimyu ward, Vilasiutuo (21) from Meziphama village and Zaimo (23) from Medziphama were dragged in the sea.
Three of them were fourth-year students of Agriculture batch.
Twentysix drowning cases in the year 2006 were reported in South Goa and now this is the first case of drowning in this year in south Goa.
Police Inspector Uday Parab said that the search work is on to trace the bodies of drowned students.
