Mumbai, Jan 27: Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Maharashtra (KBMM) had organized a poetry competition on January 18 at St Jude School Hall, Jerimeri, Mumbai. The response was tremendous as 15 poets from all over Mumbai took part in the event. Francis Fernandes, Cascia bagged first prize followed by Irene Rodrigues and Neri Nazareth in the competition.
P N Shanbagh, former president and Francis Fernandes Cascia was the chief Guest for the event. They shared the dais with president John D' Silva, secretary Lawrence D' Souza, Kamani and treasurer Walter D' Souza, Jerimeri.















A condolence meeting was also held on the same day at the venue for the departed soul of J B Moraes, who left for heavenly abode on December 30, 2014. A huge gathering of people from all over Mumbai gathered to pay respect to the great Konkani poet, writer and activist. His family was also present on the occasion. Lawrence D'Souza Kamani highlighted the life and achievements of late Moraes with his contributions to Konkani language and its progress in Mumbai under him.
Many people shared their memories with Moraes and offered condolences for the departed soul. Cyril Castelino managed the event and announced that the months mind mass will be held on January 30 at 7 pm at OLPS church, Chembur. Fresh refreshments and Tea were arranged by Swad caterers.
Francis Olivera, Padukone, beautifully compered and managed the event.
