Young Bermudians join Canada team for Sri Lanka tour

Hamilton (Bermuda), Jan 30 (IANS): Four young Bermudian cricketers have been chosen for a Canada team that will tour Sri Lanka for 12 days in March.

The quartet - Sheldon Caesar, Cameron Jeffers, Antoine Seaman and Chare Smith - will join eight players from the Ontario Cricket Academy and Club (OCA&C) for the trip, reports CMC.

Derek Perera, the former Canada player, will coach the team with Abraash Khan, a member of the Canada Under-19 side, captaining the side.

The Bermuda foursome, all of whom are members of the Bermuda Under-19 training squad, have been chosen by the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) based on their potential, hard work over the past year, and the need for all four to gain international experience.

With the regional Under-19 World Cup qualifiers coming up later this year, the BCB said it was important that as many players as possible are exposed to higher levels of cricket.

Officials also hope that mixing with different players will improve the Bermuda quartet’s understanding of the game.

The Canada contingent is made up of players who are seen as potential national squad members, and the games that the team are scheduled to play reflect that focus on high performance.

This year's tour from March 11 to 23 will include seven matches.
