Seven disaster hit states to get central assistance


New Delhi, Jan 30 (IANS): The government Friday decided to provide central assistance to seven states, which were affected by natural disasters in 2014, under national disaster response fund, a home ministry statement said.

The decision was taken in a high-level committee meeting chaired by union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The committee decided to provide central assistance to Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.

"The committee examined the proposal based on the visits of the central team to the states affected by severe natural disasters during 2014 and decided to provide them assistance," the statement said.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley along with Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and senior officers of the ministries of agriculture, finance and home also attended the meeting.
