Udupi, Jan 5: The E-beat system, developed by State Crime Record Bureau, Bangalore, was officially launched in all 20 police stations here on Thursday January 4.
The police so far were following the beat system wherein the police constable would write down the timing of his visit in a book placed at that beat. This enabled the constable to write the visit timing different from the actual one.
The e-beat system will eliminate this problem. The beat books have been replaced by electronic tags at each beat point. The constable will carry an electronic reader which he would place near the tag. The tag will record the timing of the visit. The constable, on his return to the police station, has to download the data from the reader which will be verified by the officer in-charge.
Altogether, 1759 tags have been installed in various beat points.
