Udupi, Jan 5: The protest against the Nagarjuna Power Project received a setback with the High Court rejecting the status quo plea on the project.
An application seeking status quo was filed by Nandikur Jana Jagruthi Samiti here along with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the Environment Clearance granted by the central government to the project. The Samiti had stated that the project was being built at the cost of the environment.
The power company, in its defence, said that only shrubs and bushes were being cleared for the purpose of constructing boundaries and roads. The same was being followed even at the construction site.
Hearing the petition, the court decided not to grant status quo on the project. The final hearing of the PIL will be on February 1.
