Bengaluru, Feb 4: Farmers who have encroached revenue lands and have been cultivating the same will not be evicted if the land holding is up to 5 acres.

This information was given by Karnataka’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra in the State Legislative assembly.

In his reply to the debate on the issue in the house, Jayachandra said the State Government was sympathetic to the plight of the small and marginal farmers, who had encroached revenue lands and had been cultivating the same for several decades.

The minister said the Revenue Department has issued a circular on January 17, 2015, stating that families would not be evicted if they had been cultivating up to five acres of revenue lands.

Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar and other members of parties demanded regularisation of encroached revenue and forest lands by families in Malnad, coastal and other parts of the State.
