Mangalore, Jan 9: It was a trip down memory lane for special advisor to UNESCO director general G V Rao when he delivered a talk at University College here on Monday January 8.
An alumnus of the college, Rao recalled his days as a student and observed that during then there were hardly 10 girls studying intermediate, but now the situation is different. He called upon students to maintain their ties with their alma mater.
He termed the year 2007 as India’s year and said that very soon we will have Brand India just the way we have Brand USA now. He urges the students to pursue their higher education in India as the educational institutes here have set world standards.
He further said that sufficient remuneration and good working conditions were vital in boosting the morale of teachers. Stating that good teachers are essentials for the development of the country, he lamented that there was a shortage of teachers all over the world.
Among those present were college principal Prof Govind Naik, alumna of the college Usha Rao, Prof Laxminath Bhat and former principals of the college.
