Mangalore, Jan 9: In the last year, the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada reported almost a dozen rape cases.  These were apart from sexual abuses, rape attempts which were too quite a few in numbers.  For those who expected things to turn better in the New Year, there is shocking news.  The first rape case of 2007 has been reported from Thenka Edapadavu near here on Monday January 8.

A 42-year-old dalit woman residing in the five cents area at Shibrakere near Thenka Edapadavau is said to have been raped by a middle-aged local Sheena Gowda (45).  On Monday Sheena entered the woman's house when she was alone and abused her sexually.  After the act, he closed the door and fled the place.

The incident came to light when her husband came home.  He saw her lying on the ground owing to profuse bleeding.  She was immediately admitted to Lady Goschen Hospital in the city later.

A complaint has been filed in the Bajpe police station in this regard.  However, the accused Sheena Gowda is absconding.
