Udupi, Jan 10: The week-long annual festival of Sri Krishna Math began on Tuesday. ‘Sapthotsav’ as it is called, commenced with Rathotsav and Teppotsav.
The first day of festivities included prayers and propitiation of the Navagrahas. The idols of Sri Krishna and Mukhyaprana were taken out from the Math in a gold palanquin to the Madhwa Lake and taken around the lake in a boat.
Pariyaya Krishnapuramath Swamiji Vidyasagar Teerta took the idol of Sri Krishna and Mukyaprana up the chariot. The chariots were then dragged around the Car Street
Sapthotasav commences five days prior to Makara Sankrama.
