Bangalore, Jan 10: Mobility India is a centre working in the field of disability for the last 12 years. They and have consolidated their understanding and responses to the needs of the persons with disabilities. They function as a resource center in the area of loco motor disability and community-based rehabilitation.
Their purpose is to work with people with disabilities, especially the poor, on rehabilitation and social rights, and in particular those in rural areas who are poor, through awareness raising, training, improved services, advocacy, research and development, and all other activities to help the integration of persons with disabilities into society and to ensure equal citizenship.

Acting director Albina Shankar, speaking to Daijiworld correspondent, stated that their vision is "To be an inclusive society where people with disabilities have equal rights and a good quality of life. Our purpose is to work with people with disabilities especially the poor to help in rehabilitation and social rights. Our priority is to work with the poor in rural and urban slum areas, particularly children and women".
Mobility India has its head office in Bangalore and a Regional Resource Centre in Kolkata. The total no. of districts covered are 21 and the activities are spread over approximately 4000 villages.
The Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programme of MI was initiated in 1999 with a focus on children with disabilities. The project covers mainly the slum areas in Banashankari, L R Nagar, Avalahalli and Gangondanahalli.
