Mangalore, Jan 10: Besant Women's College is organizing a three-day national seminar at T V Raman Pain Convention Centre at Kodialbail here on Friday January 12 and Saturday January 13.  The theme of the seminar is "Are India's Development Programmes Women Oriented?”

The seminar assumes importance in the light of changing economic and social policies to enhance the stature of women.  In order to emphasize the total development of women, the following sub-themes have been incorporated into the seminar:

  • Women in the national economy
  • Women and NGOs
  • Women in the family
  • Women in the public sphere
  • Developmental programmes for women.

Apart from the state, the delegates also include college teachers from Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala amd students of various colleges of Mangalore University.

The seminar will be inaugurated by Prof Olinda Pereira, former principal of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya.  Meera Datta, chief post master general, Karnataka Circle will deliver the keynote address.

The valedictory programme will be held on Saturday January 13.  Senior council and former MLA Prameela Nesargi will deliver the valedictory address while PRS Holla, DGM, planning and development of Karnataka Bank will the guest of honour.  Kudpi Jagdish Shenoy, president of Women's National Education society will preside over the inaugural as well as valedictory ceremony.
